Modern Rustic Basement Makeover Featuring the Sketch Pine Trees Wallpaper Pattern

Project by WildeWood Design — Conway, New Hampshire

Interior designer Hilary from WildeWood Design recently transformed a basement in Conway, New Hampshire into a warm, modern rustic retreat, and she chose my Sketch Pine Trees wallpaper pattern as the feature wall. The space mixes timber tones, forest-inspired décor, vintage textures, and cosy seating to create a room that feels both welcoming and full of character.

A Warm & Woodsy Basement Refresh

This basement has such a comfortable, lived-in feeling. The combination of vintage snowshoes, warm leathers, soft lighting, and natural textures gives the space that “woodland cabin” warmth. The Sketch Pine Trees pattern sits quietly behind it all, adding soft movement and a subtle forest rhythm without overwhelming the room.

Why the Sketch Pine Trees Pattern Works in This Space

This wallpaper has a gentle, hand-drawn feel that adds interest without being too busy. The fine lines and tall pine silhouettes create an organic flow that pairs beautifully with modern rustic styling, woodland elements, and both warm and cool colour palettes.

It’s a versatile pattern that works well in:

• modern rustic interiors
• cosy basements
• log cabins and chalets
• heritage homes
• woodland-inspired rooms
• organic modern spaces

It can bring texture and warmth to a room without taking over, which is exactly what you see in this project.

Behind the Design: The Inspiration for Sketch Pine Trees

This pattern started as a quick fine liner sketch, inspired by growing up in country Victoria. We were always around pine trees — collecting pine cones, decorating them in winter, swinging from rope branches, and driving along bush tracks lined with them.

I drew a few trees the way I remembered them and played with the layout until the repeat felt natural. It’s a relaxed, familiar design that works comfortably on wallpaper, textiles, stationery, and home décor.

Where This Pattern Can Be Used

Although it shines as wallpaper, the Sketch Pine Trees pattern translates well across many creative applications, including:

• cushions and upholstery
• nursery and children’s décor
• stationery and notebooks
• boutique homewares
• cabin and lodge collections
• apparel accents and accessories
• packaging and seasonal product lines

Its clean, hand-drawn style makes it easy to scale for different uses.
