Handmade Pet Accessories Featuring My Watercolour Boat Pattern - A Mack & Co Collaboration

Project by Eden Chae Cantu, Mack & Co — USA

One of my favourite parts of being a surface designer is seeing how different makers bring my patterns to life, and this project with Mack & Co is such a perfect example of that. Eden, the creative behind the brand, is an absolute powerhouse, thoughtful, talented, and with a really natural eye for pairing colours and patterns.

She works with such care, and she’s an incredible sewist. Every piece she makes feels intentional, soft, and beautifully crafted.

How This Collaboration Happened

Eden actually found my Watercolour Boat Pattern on Spoonflower. I remember seeing notifaction pop up and being so excited, it’s always such a lovely surprise when makers choose one of my designs for their products.

This boat pattern is one of my early watercolour designs. I’ve always loved painting little boats and playing around with the colours and shapes, so seeing it sewn into handmade pieces felt really special.

Eden and I began chatting from there, and I quickly realised just how talented she is, a beautiful mix of creativity, attention to detail, and a real knack for pairing fabrics. She even offered to send me one of the finished pieces, which I would have absolutely loved, but international postage from the US to Australia is wild at the moment. Even without holding the pieces in person, the photos made me smile so much.

Seeing the Pattern on Products

This pattern appeared in Eden’s limited edition summer range, which she builds around the latest seasonal trends. She refreshes her designs regularly, so seeing Watercolour Boats featured in that collection was a lovely surprise

Why I Love Working With Small Makers

Collaborations like this light me up. There’s something really special about seeing your artwork translated into everyday pieces, things people wear, use, gift, and enjoy.

Her photo of one of her pups wearing the bandana out on a boat is easily my favourite. There’s something so sweet about seeing a design you painted at your desk end up somewhere completely unexpected, living its own little life.

These small creative overlaps truly give me energy. Creatives supporting creatives… it’s one of my favourite parts of doing this.. see the above pic

Where This Pattern Works

The Watercolour Boats design sits in that calm, coastal space, soft colours, simple shapes, and a gentle flow. Because of that, it works across a pretty broad range of niches. I’ve always seen it as one of those patterns that can shift easily between kids’ products, summer accessories, beach-themed collections, and small handmade pieces.

It has a playful feel without being busy, which makes it great for:

• pet bandanas
• scrunchies and bows
• kids’ clothing and accessories
• beach or holiday collections
• small-batch home décor
• summer markets or seasonal drops
• stationery and light paper goods

It pairs well with both brights and neutrals, which is probably why it fits so comfortably in Eden’s range too.
